Happy Tuesday!

If you have recently been in a funk about life or you have been having thought spirals that feel out of control, you my friend, need a hobby!

Hobbies are beneficial for mental and physical health. They release feel-good chemicals and reduce stress. They keep our minds focused and can help take our minds off of worries and any challenges in our lives.

Hobbies help to improve your mood and reduce symptoms of anxiety. If your hobby is a sport of any kind, think of all the benefits for your health and well-being.

There is no better way to fix your inner Chi!

A few years ago, I took a women’s self defense class that changed my life. I was on a high after every session! Not only did I learn what to do in a bad situation to defend myself, I also got a great workout and it led me to a good few years training Brazilian jiu-jitsu.

During class time, I could always hear my phone either dinging with sales or messages from potential clients and here is why:

When you engage in a hobby or activity you enjoy all resistance to the things we desire fades away. Our mind and body are so focused on what we are engaging in that we forget about anything else. Sometimes we obsess over the things we want and this comes from a lack mindset. If we chase something we push it further away.

We need to practice detachment and hobbies are great for this.

If you have no idea where to start, grab your journal and start making lists of all the things that make you happy.

Types of Hobbies

Here are a few ideas!

Gardening

Gardening is very grounding and therapeutic. It helps to calm the nervous system and reduce stress. Nature is a healer and we don’t use it enough. The rewards you feel when you grow something is amazing. Also, nurturing the plants we grow can help you combat loneliness and helps you to feel needed.

Yoga

Not only is yoga great for your mind and body, it can help you get out of your home and socialize if you take a class. Some yoga studios even offer free trial classes.

Cooking or Baking

I love to bake. For me it is like therapy with calories! Measuring ingredients, reading recipes and, creating something yummy can be really good at taking your mind off of any problem. We all have those pinterest boards full of recipes, why not give them a try?! You may end up loving it.

Art

Let out your creativity. Create art with beautiful colors to help lift your mood. Make time to nurture your inner child by making something. You could create a beautiful piece of Art for your home, for a gift or even just for fun.

Hiking or Running

So many great benefits. From being out in nature to losing weight , hiking or running is a whole lifestyle.

There are also so many courses and free learning videos out there that you could learn almost anything at anytime. You could try multiple things and see what really lights you up.

Monetize your hobby

These days you can monetize anything. You can make some videos about what you love and turn it into an ebook or course or maybe teach it somewhere in your town. You can even sell things you make or bake. There are lots of ways to monetize things you love and turn it into a business.

Feng Shui is my passion and before I created my business and blog, I would Feng Shui my friends and families homes for fun. It would make me so happy to know my skills were changing lives and I got so much fulfillment from it. Then I created Modern Feng Shui and it changed my life! All from allowing myself to explore my passion. You never know where your hobbies can take you!

Challenge

Find something you love and for 21 days make it your whole personality. Learn everything you can about your chosen hobby, become an expert. Make note of all the ways your life starts to shift and see if you can find a way to monetize your hobby.
