Where to place your bed according to Feng Shui
One of the most important things in your home is your bed, according to Feng Shui.
Your bed is connected to many different areas of life.
Sleep is so important for our health and has a ripple effect. If we have a bad night’s sleep, we struggle to get through the day. It impacts our work and therefore, our income, it can also impact our relationships. Have you ever been irritated by everything your partner does after a night of tossing and turning?
If there is one thing that you can do to positively impact the Chi in your home, it would be to look at your bed.
Feng Shui bed rules
A strong, sturdy headboard. We want to feel deeply supported and stable when we sleep. A headboard makes all the difference. It represents stability. Choose wood if possible and avoid headboards with slats and gaps.
Clear the clutter around the bed. The closer clutter is to us when we sleep, the more it will impact us. If we sleep 8 hours a night surrounded by clutter, imagine how that could impact our sleep and dreams.
3. Bedsheets are important. Choose neautral colors. To attract love, choose light pink. Avoid dark colors like red or blue, these colors are too vibrant for the bedroom.
4. Be mindful of what is under your bed. If you have a bed with drawers. Be sure that you are not storing workout or career related items. If you must use the drawers, place extra sheets, blankets and items that are related to sleep and rest.
5. Choose a bed that is not too low but also not too high. If we struggle to get in and out of bed, sleep will also be a struggle.
Another thing that is also important is the direction of the bed in the bedroom. You may have heard of the ‘Command Position’ before and how important it is. It is one of the most important and basic Feng Shui principles.
What is the command position?
In Feng Shui, the "command position" refers to a seating or sleeping arrangement where you have a clear view of the doorway or entrance of the room, while also having your back supported by a solid wall. This placement is believed to promote a sense of security and control, as you can see potential threats or opportunities coming into the space.
You can use this information and apply it to any room and also when going to interviews and important meetings. The energy will always feel the most powerful and supported in the command position.
Another thing that can deeply effect our lives is where the bed is placed in the bedroom. The perfect position of your bed would be in the command position. Where the headboard is up against a solid wall and the door can be comfortably be seen. In and ideal room, your feet would not directly be pointed towards the door either.
Although ideal, in this modern world where homes are built for convenience and not according to Feng Shui, this may not be possible. Alternatively, we can use our own personal directions to decide the best place for our bed. You can grab a personal Gua reading HERE.
We can also place our bed using the compass directions.
Placing your bed with your head in the South is said to be most beneficial for promoting wealth and prosperity. It also promotes deep sleep and rest.
Your bed in the East is said to be connected too good health and better concentration.
Sleeping with your head in the North is said to be disruptive and not an ideal placement unless it is one of your personal directions. The East is also not ideal as it is said to be the direction of the setting sun and can disrupt energy flow, leading to lethargy through the day.
Feng Shui Tip: If placing your bed in the command position is impossible for you. Place a small mirror on a wall that reflects the door that you can see from where you are laying down. This is will at least help with not being hit with unexpected bills and unwelcome news.
If you sleep with a window above the bed or on the wall that the headboard is placed, make sure that you have a good, solid colored window covering to help bring the feeling of a solid wall. This will change the energy in the room and help with stability.
