About four years ago, i watched an Abraham Hicks video on Youtube that completely changed my life. If you don’t know, Abraham Hicks is a collection of souls Channeled by the amazing Esther Hicks. Now, I am not quite sure how i stumbled across these videos or, why they showed up on my feed, but let’s just say, they showed up just at the right time.

This was around the time that i was starting my, what i know now as, spiritual awakening. I had just finished a three day, free EFT training and the energy in my life had shifted. In this particular video, Abraham talked about meditation and quieting the min, to stop all thought and to stop resisting, to find the path of least resistance. If you know Abraham Hicks then you know how often that they say this and how important it is.

It was in the midst of putting together Christmas orders for my jewelry business and in the chaos of having three children running around that i decided to try it. To quiet my mind and focus.

Sooooo many beads! This was the peak of my jewelry business that i am forever grateful for.

My first experience was not the greatest. I took a few deep breaths and then sat still, cross my legs and hoped for the best. To be honest my mind, was not quiet! Thoughts of what i had to finish for the day, what i was going to cook for dinner and keeping on ear on the children stopped me from being fully in that moment. In my eyes the first time was an epic fail, but i didn’t want to give up.

the benefits of meditation

  • Improved focus. Meditation can help improve your attention span and help you focus on what you are trying to get done.

  • Reduce stress. It can also help lower stress levels because for a little while a day, you are not focused on problems. It can also help bring solutions to those problems when we get quiet and stop all resistant thoughts.

  • Improves the quality of sleep.

  • Can help to improve your mood.

These are just some of the many benefits that meditation can bring. It is also why i wanted to keep trying.

That next day, after the failed attempt. I tried again, at 5am, before anything or anyone could get to me first! Meditating right after waking up is ideal as you have stopped all resistant thought while sleeping. Also, i found that listening to some frequency music or doing a guided meditation with headphones, made it easier for me to focus and helped me to surrender all negative thoughts.

Now after a few weeks of this the most amazing things started to happen.

  • Old feelings started to surface and i let them. The only way out is through right? I felt every emotion, cried, laughed, got angry, cried some more and then… let it go. Things that i didn’t know where still effecting me came up and i released them. We are often told to not let ourselves feel the negative emotion, but when we do this we don’t allow ourselves to move forward. The old emotions and feelings will always come up unless we allow ourselves to fully feel and let go.

  • I found my ability to make decisions was easier. When i meditate i get to connect with what i truly want. Therefore making decisions was easier as i knew what i wanted. The clarity is so, so good.

  • The way i reacted to situations changed. Someone cut me off while driving? Instead of getting angry, i wished them a good day and didn’t let it ruin my day. I realized that i can’t control the actions of others but i can control mine. To be honest i have also noticed, the calmer and nicer i am, that is the treatment i also started to receive. The world started to mirror to me the feelings o felt inside.

  • I started to get really great ideas, this blog for one! Meditating allowed me to receive all the nudges from the universe because i was letting them in.

  • This is probably the best one, i have not been sick in over a year! I recently read that stress causes disease in the body and when you lower stress levels, it can help to strengthen the immune system.

Four years one and my meditation practice isn’t perfect. Sometimes life happens and i skip a day or wake up late, but i don’t beat myself up. I just find 10 minutes in a day and get quiet if i can.

my meditation tips

  1. Find a place in your home that you can meditate in. Nothing crazy, maybe a chair you feel comfortable in or even a pillow on the floor.

Your mediation spot doesn’t have to look like this to start, but this would be a great mediation room!

2. Try and choose the same time everyday to meditate. This will help send the signal to your brain that it is time to get quiet. This helped me so much to stay consistent.

3. Keeping a journal of your thoughts. Write all the things that come up as you meditate. Not only will you be able to see what thoughts are holding you back in your life, you can also write down what makes you feel good. This will give clarity on your goals and what you truly want.

4. Try a guided meditation to help you start. Searching guided meditations on Youtube will bring up thousands of results. Try a different one each day until you find one you love. I highly recommend searching Manifest by Jess. Her meditations helped me get started.

5. Don’t put to much pressure on yourself if you find that the mind chatter doesn’t stop. That is why it is called a meditation practice. Your mind has so many thoughts in a day. It will take some time to train it to be quiet!

I would love to hear from you and hear about your meditation journey!
