My Shiny hair secrets...
One of the things people always comment on is my hair.
I even had some suggest that I make a blog post about it!
The truth is, it hasn't always been smooth and in good condition. There was a time where it was dry and brittle and I didn’t know how to take care of it. I grew up in England where the weather isn’t the greatest and then moved to Canada in 2009 and the winters here made my hair so dry. Now, with a little extra care my hair is nice, even in the winter.
The trick is to take care of the scalp and ends but i would say the most effective thing I have done is drink collagen everyday.
There are so many out there on on the market. This is the one i drink everyday.
The benefits of collagen…
As we age our bodies make less collagen. Collagen is what gives out skin elasticity, moisture and, strength. It is one of the reasons we get wrinkles. It can help slow down the aging process of our skin.
Stronger bones. Collagen makes up about 90% of our bones. As our bodies slow down collagen production as we get older, this means without it, our bones can become weaker.
Stronger nails and hair. Collagen helps to support our skin, also the skin on our scalp, which protects our hair from the root.
Improves joint health. Collagen supports the cartilage in our joints. With lifes wear an tear, wd naturally lose this, taking collagen regularly can help reduce joint pain and support our bones.
Pictured: My hair before and after drinking collagen for around 6 months. You can see that it went from dry and frizzy, to smooth and sleek.
Another thing I do is I oil my hair twice a week. The night before I wash my hair, I will use a hair oil and do a deep scalp massage and also distribute oil down to the ends.
I LOVE castor oil! If i were to suggest only one oil, it would be this. Castor oil has many uses but as a hair oil, it is magic.
I usually buy this one from Amazon. There are so many different types out there.
I will also use Rosemary oil, which has many hair benefits.
If you are experiencing hair loss, here is a little tip, when you are oiling your scalp, using a micro needling tool can help bring oxgyen to the hair follicle and help to stimulate it for new growth. The tiny needles will allow that to happen.
Below is a current hair oil i have been using and the micro needling tool.
Some extra tips
Use a good quality shampoo and conditioner, the cheaper ones tend to have bad ingredients. I use Biosilk or Chi as they work well for me.
Do not harshly dry your hair with a towel when you are done washing. Use a soft microfiber towel instead.
Always use a heat protection spray before styling with a heat tool.
Be mindful of your diet. Often we overlook our diet when we think of our hair. Eggs, avocado, fish, lean meat, leafy greens and seeds and nuts are beneficial.
Take Omega -3 fatty acid supplements.
Try these and let me know how your hair improves! XOXO
