How to Feng Shui your kitchen
The kitchen, in Feng Shui, is the one of the main rooms in a home that is directly connected with money and the abundance that flows into the home and here is why:
It is where we nourish and feed our families and ourselves with the groceries and ingredients we buy.
The kitchen is also an important room to balance the five Feng Shui elements. It holds a lot of fire energy from appliances like the stove and needs to be balanced by adding wood, water, earth and metal for harmony and calm.
When clients come to me for a Feng Shui consultation, if they are experiencing arguments and bickering in the home, applying Feng Shui to the kitchen usually helps to calm and bring harmonious Chi to all that live there.
There are a few things the kitchen that can have a negative effect on the Chi in the home. Check to see if you have one or more of these issues in your kitchen.
The sink and stove face each other. You may have read this in previous blog posts, but when the sink and stove face eachother the elements of fire and water are fighting against eachother. This causes tension and can be the pain reason why there may be bickering and arguments.
To Remedy this you can do two things. You can place a mat between the two elements or you can put a hanging, Feng Shui crystal between them. You can hang it from a light fixtures or add a small hook.
This will help to break that tension. The hanging crystal will disperse that energy around the home.
2. When you are cooking at the stove, if your back is to the front entrance of the kitchen it means you are not cooking in the command position. When we are not in the command position we may find that in life we are hit with unexpected events or bills. To remedy this, we can place a small mirror on the wall we face so that we can see behind us. You may also want to invest in some mirrored tiles if you are really committed to Feng Shui!
3. Avoid too many candles. Too much fire can have a negative affect on the couple in the home as the energy is angry and too hot. I often light a candle in the kitchen before company come over but after I will move it to another room.
Feng Shui kitchen tips
π€ Declutter! I feel like I say this all the time but it is so, so, important. We all have that one drawer in our kitchen that collects random things! Maybe it Is full of expired condiment packets from take out food. Ours seems to fill with batteries of all kinds! It is important to always be removing things from the kitchen that need to go. Keeping the kitchen spacious and clean will allow for more abundance to flow.
π€ Keep the stove clean. If there is one thing I recommend to keep clean all the time, it would be the stove. The stove is a symbol of abundance. We feed our families using the stove. It is also important to rotate the burners we use on the stove top. This will help circulate fire Chi. Fire is the element of abundance.
π€ Good lighting is key. When a room has good lighting it will help attract good Chi. When a kitchen has good lighting, it will help attract abundance. If you don't have a window for natural light, you may add appropriate lighting for the space with bright bulbs.
π€ As mentioned above the five elements must be balanced. You can add earth elements like the color brown or yellow, wooden baskets and, metal faucets to help balance out the water from and fire Chi. You can also add plants for wood energy and growth.
π€ Clean! A clean kitchen is very important for good Chi to flow. Once a week, take everything off the counters and wipe them down. Only put things back on the counter that must be there. Space allows Chi to flow freely.
π€ Add a bowl of fresh fruit to your kitchen counter or island. A round bowl filled with fruit is a symbol of good health and wealth. A bowl of 9 lemons also symbolizes health and vitality.
π€ Choose colors wisely. Did you know that the color blue is said to curb appetite? It is why you donβt see many blue restaurants! Avoid red as it is a fire color, but look into the energy behind the color before you paint or add color to your kitchen.
π€ Add crystals! I keep a piece of pyrite and quartz next to my stove. Pyrite is a crystal that has the energy of wealth and quartz helps to amplify that energy.
π€ Make sure the cutlery and plates that you use are in good condition and pretty! Eating on plates that you love is key to feeling like royalty! If you open your cupboards to a mismatched pile of plates with cracks or chips, you will not eat and nourish yourself with good Chi. Fact.
π€ Use Gold accents as gold is associated with money and luxury. Gold hardware is also very pretty!
