Fashion Feng Shui
Why the things you wear influence your energy.
When I tell you Feng Shui is not just for the home, I mean it! Feng Shui is everything, even the clothes you wear. Everything has an energy and everything is energy. What we wear can actually influence how people react to us and can also affect our confidence. We always feel better when we look our best and knowing what colors, fabrics and elements work for us can help us feel amazing.
Firstly, before we Feng Shui our wardrobe, we must edit our closet. Take out what we no longer wear or what no longer fits.
Keeping those pants from the 90's that we one day ‘might’ fit into must go! Items like this represent the past and not the version of us that we are now.
Sometimes while doing this, we find things we had forgotten we had or things with tags on. Those take up space, they take up energy in our homes. Don’t forget when we remove things from our homes, we make space for more to come in! So get purging and see what you can let go of.
Client story: Last year I worked with a client who loved to buy clothes and accessories and it was taking over her closet, bedroom and life! Her mind was always cluttered and she was always complaining about not having anything to wear! We simplified her closet to items that worked for her element and things that she truly loved and she was able to sell some of her things and made $1500! Letting go can bring so many benefits.
Speaking of elements. We each have elements that work for us and support us. In Feng Shui we always decorate with the five elements. These are fire, water, metal, wood and earth and the same should be for your clothes. You can do a quick Google search or you can write in the comments, your year of birth and I will tell you yours.
When we use the elements to style our outfits we find the confidence to slay that job interview or we feel amazing that date! Although we can use our year of birth to determine our personal elements, we can also use them to match our energy. Say one day you are feeling like you are full of motivation wear clothing that represents the fire element to keep that motivation throughout your day.
How to dress using the five elements
Fire. The fire element is a perfect date night style choice! It can also work in the office when you really want to be seen and noticed. It would be a perfect element to wear if you are talking on stage or conducting a meeting. For fire, wear animal print, leather, suede and the colors red, hot pink and orange.
Metal. The metal element, is sleek, refined, organized and pretty. Think gold and silver jewelry, the color white and gray, chrome and metallics. It is the element to wear when we want to get things done and to feel more classy and put together.
Wood. The wood element helps us to expand. Think growth and new ideas. A great style to wear when we need to get creative and need an uplevel in our lives. Add wooden elements, the colors green and brown and floral prints to your outfit.
Water. The water element helps us to feel more in flow with the universe and it’s energy. Water has a fluid movement and is a great element to wear for meditation and when connecting to our higher selves. Wear the water element when you need a day to chill out and go with the flow. The colors black and blue, soft flowy fabrics and pearls all represent water.
Earth. The elements of earth is perfect to wear when we need some grounded energy. It is a balancing, nurturing energy. Wear earth elements when you are having a stressful day, or when you are having a day with your family to feel more connected. Colors like yellow, Browns and creams and natural fabrics like cotton, bamboo and straw.
You can also apply the element colors to your make up and nails. My personal element is fire and I will tell you that when I wear orange tone eye shadows or paint my nails red, my confidence is unmatched. I feel so powerful and motivated.
You can also mix elements to match your vibe or wear something from each element to feel more balanced.
Feng Shui fashion is about matching your energy or, how you want to feel and blending that with what you wear. It also is about enhancing your natural elements and learning how to dress to support your goals and intentions.
Today, you can open up any app and find so many fashion ‘trends’ some that work for you and some that don’t. I have seen so many people wear ‘trending’ outfits that do not work for the persons skin tone, body shape and style.
That is why sticking to what is authentic to you and using the elements to dress will always be in style!
