Every few weeks I get an email with a Feng Shui home ‘problem’ asking for a solution.

I just want to say, there is no home with ‘bad’ Feng Shui. Just energy that needs to be rearranged.

With so much information online, it is hard to decide which solution is best for you. I always tell my clients, the best solution is usually always the simplest. Despite what is online, Feng Shui is simple.

However, there are some Feng Shui issues that I get on repeat and so here i will be addressing them in this blog post!

Each home is unique, i always say that every home has its own energy and aura that surrounds it. In a perfect world, all homes would be built according to Feng Shui principles but, these days they build them to fit as many rooms as they can into any size space and this compromises the energy, causes conflict and can create a chaotic feeling. You may notice when you walk into a new home these days, it may look beautiful but something just feels ‘off’.

Common Feng Shui Problems

Problem: The sink and stove face eachother in the kitchen.

You may have seen this issue before. The sink and stove facing eachother is considered unfavorable in Feng Shui and here is why; When we have fire and water working against each other, it creates conflict and bickering in the home. It is the clashing of the energy between the elements that you are feeling. In the Feng Shui element cycle water destroys fire.

Solution: Place a floor mat in between the two elements to create space and help absorb some of that energy. You can also place a hanging Feng Shui crystal above, between the sink and stove to help disperse some of that energy. This will restore harmony in the home.

Problem: Exposed beams above you.

When we have exposed beams in our home it creates pressure on us. You may find you have the weight of the world on your shoulders and you are constantly feeling like there is a lot of pressure on you. Energetically, beams create a downwards feeling that feels heavy.

I personally love the look of exposed beams! There is something that is very rustic and charming about them, they add character to a home so, I have come up with a few solutions.

Solution: Avoid beams in the living room and bedroom. These are rooms are meant to have more yin energy. When we are trying to relax, we don’t need the energy of pressure and stress.

If you have beams in these rooms, you can paint them the same color as the ceiling to blend them in and conceal the heavy energy.

Problem: The front and back door are directly opposite eachother.

When we have this issue in a home it creates and energy that flows in the front and straight out again. This is mainly connected to money. If you have this problem in your home, you may find that when money comes in, it flows straight back out. You may always seem to recieve unexpected bills or things you need to pay for as soon as you recieve money.

Solution: You can slow down the energy by adding heavier furniture on either side of the back or front door (inside), or an entry way table in a heavy wood or concrete.

Another solution is to add a window covering or curtain to the back door and/or mats (inside) the back and front door. When we slow that rushing energy down, we allow it to stay inside and flow around the home. You will find that the unexpected bills will stop and you may even be able to save some money!

Problem: No headboard on the bed.

This is more common than you think. There are so many of us that don’t have a headboard on our beds! When we don't have one, our sleep and health is comprised. We don’t feel grounded and stable and we can always feel on edge. A headboard is very important in Feng Shui.

Solution: Now the obvious fix would be to buy a headboard or a new bed. Sometimes this isn’t an option right away. Some of my clients have temporarily added a sheet to the wall with success and some have even painted a headboard on the wall to create the illusion of one.

The energy of stability is what we are trying to truly feel here. When we sleep we are resting and we need rest for health and energy.

Problem: The front door faces the stairs.

When our stairs face our front door, Chi that comes through the front door races up the stairs instead of flowing around the home. Think of water coming in the door, when the stairs face the door, the water will rush up instead of around (This is how I envision Chi flowing through a home!)

Again, this will impact our finances and overall feeling of safety and stability.

Solution: Similarly to the sink and stove problem, we need to slow down the Chi that flows in and, allow it to flow around the home. Place a mat or rug between the door and stairs, hang a Feng Shui crystal or, place a mirror on the left or right wall next to the front door. Make sure you are not placing a mirror opposite the front door as any Chi coming in will flow back out.

Placing a mirror on the left or right of front door will allow Chi to be reflected around the home instead of up the stairs.

Problem: Wealth and prosperity area is in the bathroom.

The wealth and prosperity area is the back left corner or room of your home. This may be a bathroom for you. When our wealth area is the bathroom, you may feel like money flows down the drain or you often spend money on things that you don’t really need.

Solution: Add wooden elements like plants or baskets to the bathroom. This will help to soak up any excess water Chi that is draining your finances. You can also add money crystals such as citrine, amethyst or pyrite to strengthen the wealth Chi.

Always make sure the toilet seat is down when not in use and check often for leaks. You may also tie a red ribbon on the sink pipes to help prosperity chi stay inside the home. Always keep the bathroom clean and the counters clutter free and clean mirrors regularly. Treat the bathroom how you would treat money.
